Let the Bolles Motors Service Department Get Your Vehicle Ready for Holiday Driving

The winter holidays are upon us, and many drivers will be hitting the road to celebrate with friends and family near and far. Connecticut winters can be dicey, so it's important to make sure your car, truck, or SUV is prepared for possible hazardous driving conditions before you set out on your road trip. There are several ways you can prepare your car to ensure your safety and that of your passengers when you head out on a road trip to celebrate the festivities that the winter holidays bring.

  • Keep up with regularly scheduled maintenance and double check your oil and fluid levels before you head out on your trip.
  • Make sure you have enough antifreeze to avoid system failure due to freezing. Have your system checked for leaks, and top off or install new coolant.
  • If you have a garage, we recommend using it to shelter your vehicle during winter months in order to protect your paint, avoid ice on the windshield, and prevent excess fluids and/or water in your radiator from freezing. If you don’t have a garage, consider investing in a car cover.
  • Inspect and replace windshield wipers, as needed, and change your windshield wiper fluid to one that has antifreeze added to prevent freezing when cleaning.
  • Check your tires for proper tread and air. Maintaining traction in winter months is an important step to keep you and your passengers safe; without enough tread, your tires won’t be able to gain enough traction, and slick roads can become treacherous. Ensure your tires are properly inflated and have enough tread to be safely driven in inclement weather.
  • Have your vehicle’s systems inspected including battery, hoses, brake and headlights, heating and cooling systems, etc. before winter months and possibly dangerous weather setting in.
  • Have an emergency kit on-hand in your vehicle; dry matches and candles, a flashlight with extra batteries, blankets, water, and no-perishable snacks can be essential items if you become stranded during a winter storm.

Bolles Motors has an exceptional service department staffed with friendly, factory-trained technicians who are ready to help you prepare for winter weather. We encourage you to stop by and let us help you determine which services your vehicle requires so you can be ready for inclement weather before it hits.
